Image URL generator

Updated Direct link in one click

Developers, testers and designers often just need an image URL: something to drop into an <img src>, a JSON fixture, a CMS field or an API request. Upload a file and copy the direct URL — it’s served from a global CDN with the correct content type.

Drop images, click to choose, or paste (Ctrl/⌘ + V)
JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF · up to 10 MB · 10 at a time · metadata (EXIF/GPS) removed

By uploading you agree to the content rules. Every image is safety-checked before it goes live.

How to get a URL for an image

  1. Upload the image (or paste it).
  2. Copy the Direct link — it ends in the real file extension.
  3. Use it anywhere an image URL is accepted. It keeps working until the expiry you chose.

Upload with curl

Send a multipart request with a file field and an optional expiry of 1h, 1d, 7d or 30d:

curl -F "file=@screenshot.png" -F "expiry=1d" https://imgdrop.dev/api/img/upload

Response (HTTP 201):

{
  "id": "aB3dE5gH7k",
  "url": "https://….public.blob.vercel-storage.com/i/aB3dE5gH7k-….png",
  "page": "https://imgdrop.dev/i/aB3dE5gH7k",
  "deleteKey": "…24 characters…",
  "expiresAt": "2026-10-19T12:00:00.000Z",
  "width": 1280, "height": 720, "bytes": 182044, "mime": "image/png"
}

Errors return JSON with an error message: 413 for files over 10 MB, 415 for unsupported or mislabeled files, 422 when the safety review blocks the image, 429 for rate limits and 503 if the safety check is temporarily unavailable (nothing is published in that case).

Need a placeholder instead?

If you don’t have an image yet, the placeholder image generator builds a URL like /api/placeholder/600x400 that returns an image of any size — no upload needed.

Safe, temporary and private by default

  • Automated safety review. Every image is checked before it goes live; anything against the content rules never gets a link.
  • Links expire. Choose 1 hour to 30 days. Expired images are deleted from storage, not just hidden.
  • Metadata removed. GPS location, camera serial numbers and editing history are stripped before upload.
  • Unlisted. Viewer pages aren’t indexed by search engines and image IDs can’t be guessed — only people you share the link with can find it.

Frequently asked questions

What is a direct image URL?

A URL that returns the image file itself (with an image content type) rather than a web page, so it works in <img> tags, CSS, Markdown, test fixtures and APIs that fetch images.

Can I upload from the command line?

Yes: curl -F "file=@screenshot.png" -F "expiry=1d" https://imgdrop.dev/api/img/upload. The JSON response contains the direct url, the viewer page, the delete key and the expiry time. Uploads from scripts follow the same limits and safety review.

Are there rate limits?

Yes — 20 uploads per hour and 100 per day per connection, to keep the service fast and free for everyone.

Which formats and sizes are supported?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (including animated) and AVIF, up to 10 MB and 40 megapixels each. Very large photos are optimized automatically so they upload quickly. SVG, HEIC and other formats are not accepted.
